Lawrence S. Katz
A recognized expert on international child abduction, Lawrence S. Katz is a mentor with the International Child Abduction Attorney Network and the Department of State Attorney Network. He has received numerous awards from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and he is a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an exclusive association of lawyers recognized by their peers as the most experienced and expert family law specialists in their countries.
He has been counsel of record, mentored, or consulted in over 175 Hague Convention, international divorce, and child abduction cases. He was also a member of the Study Group of the Secretary of State Advisory Committee of Private International Law considering the 1996 Hague Protection of Children Convention. Mr. Katz has also testified as an expert witness in child abduction and preventive measures cases.
Mr. Katz lectures frequently on family law, and he has presented at seminars and symposiums on behalf of the Dade County Bar Association Family Courts Committee (on economic injunction and freeze orders), the First Family American Inn of Court (on abduction prevention factors), and the 19th Judicial Circuit in St. Lucie County, Florida (on the Hague Abduction Convention and the UCCJEA). He has also lectured on the Hague Abduction Convention and cross-cultural mediation at the University of Miami.
He has extensive experience as a Florida Supreme Court-certified family mediator, and has had an AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory since 1977. Mr. Katz received his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Miami.
